Application on Frankenstein
A Cultural Critic can analyze Frankenstein in three different ways. The four letters in the beginning and frequent letters included in the chapters are reinterpreted in Frankenstein because of the way media is used. Through this reinterpretation, Shelley intended to show the transformation of literature in early 1800s. The manufactured products of the early 1800s such as William’s locket reflects the radical economic change. England had already gone through the Industrial Revolution and was continuing to make improvements in science. Because the Industrial Revolution also brought about inventions and scientific developments, people faced anxiety--the scientific values somewhat contradicted supernatural elements that they had been involved in.
